Chile's Lakes & Glaciers - 10 Days/8 Nights

 

The rich and apparently limitless nature of Parque National Torres del Paine provides an ideal environment for observation and explorations. Over 200 kinds of plants and different birds can be watched. Stop at Milodon Cave, were a replica of this prehistoric herbivorous can be admired. Navigate to Serrano and Balmaceda Glaciers. Chile's Lake District is famous for its spectacular scenery of deep blue mountain lakes, snow-capped volcanos, pristine beauty of alerce (larch) forests, popular resorts, year-round sports, and traditional folklore, handicrafts and legends. A truly exciting experience!

 

Day 01- Depart the US to Santiago, Chile.

Day 02- Arrival at Santiago airport and transfer to hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon city tour

Visit Santa Lucía hill, where the conqueror Pedro De Valdivia founded Santiago, for a panoramic view of the city, while enjoying the hill's vegetation and the architecture of Hidalgo's Castle. Afterwards, visit the beautiful New York Street, the Stock Exchange, the Government Palace, and the main historical buildings such as the National Library, the Court House and the former Congress.

Day 03- Full day excursion to Vina Del Mar, the main seaside resort. Visit modern buildings, as well as the well-kept parks, gardens and Valparaiso, the most important Port of Chile. Stop at a restaurant overlooking the sea for lunch. Then Valparaiso, declared world heritage thanks to the picturesque architecture of its 44 hills, and their characteristic elevators, 15 of them still working. (BL)

Day 04- Arrival in Punta Arenas and transfer to Puerto Natales. Check-in at the hotel for 3 nights. (B)

Day 05- Tour of Torres Del Paine & Milodon Caves. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful national parks, famous all around the world for its spectacular scenery, surrounded by glaciers, lagoons, waterfalls and the varied flora and fauna and adventure tourism activities. Milodon Cave, where the remains of this prehistoric herbivorous was found and a replica of it can be admired. (BL)

Day 06- Embark at a local boat and start cruising the Ultima Esperanza Sound. Sea lions, swans and unique fauna can be seen on this stretch before arriving at Balmaceda Mountain and the Serrano Glacier. Hike up to the North Slope. Lunch on board and return to Puerto Natales. (BL)

Day 07- Transfer from Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas airport for flight to Puerto Montt. Arrival at the airport and transfer to a selected hotel for 3 nights. (B)

Day 08- Full day tour to Peulla, driving through the southern shore of the Llanquihue Lake admiring the beauty of Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes with a stop at the Petrohue Waterfalls. The tour continues to Petrohue to board a catamaran sailing the "Todos Los Santos" lakes also known as lake Emerald due to its vivid blue-green colored waters. Arrive in Peulla. After lunch, return to Puerto Montt. (B)

Day 09- Full day archipelago Chiloe excursion. Board the ferry to cross the Chacao Channel and continue by land up to the lovely city of Ancud distinctive charm of the Chiloč archipelago, off Chile's southern coast. Located on the northern point of the main island, Isla Grande, Ancud takes visitors back in time. Continue around the city including the visit to the San Antonio Fort, continue to Castro, located on the shores of a fjord with calm waters, it serves as a main marketplace for products bought and sold by the inhabitants of neighboring islands. Its unique and typical architecture is particularly noteworthy: houses build on stilts by the shores of the sea and known as palafitos. (B)

Day 10- Leisure until time for transfer to airport for return flight to the U.S. (B)
